Irish Oatmeal (Basic stovetop)

Introduction

This is the same basic recipe as from Bob's Redmill package of steel cut oats. Plain and simple cooking. This is the same basic recipe as from Bob's Redmill package of steel cut oats. Plain and simple cooking.
Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    3 cups water
    1 cup steel cut oats
    1/4 tsp salt

Directions

In a medium size pot bring water and salt to a boil. While stirring, slowly add the steel cut oats to the boiling water. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes uncovered. Stir occasionally. Cook less time, 10 or 15 minutes, if you like a chewier texture or longer, up to 30 minutes, if you like a softer texture.

Top with your choice of fresh fruit, dried fruit, nuts and milks. Not included in calorie count.

Serving Size: makes 4 - 3/4 to 1 cup servings depending on how thick or thin you prefer the cereal. To get an accurate portion, divide into four equal portion before serving.
