Spaghetti Sauce

Submitted by: CALIPIDGIOUS

Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

Ground beef, extra lean, 12 oz (remove)
Mushrooms, fresh, 1.25 cup, pieces or slices (remove)
Onions, raw, 1.5 cup, chopped (remove)
Green Peppers (bell peppers), 0.5 cup, chopped (remove)
    Garlic, 2 clove (remove)
    Tomato Sauce, 3 cup (remove)
*Del Monte Petite Cut Diced Tomatoes, 1 cup (remove)
    Oregano, ground, 1 tbsp (remove)
    Basil, 2 tbsp (remove)
    Granulated Sugar, 1 tsp (remove)

Directions

Chop all vegetables. Brown beef. (I rinse it off in a strainer just to be sure as much of the fat as possible is gone). Wipe out pan. Saute onions, peppers and garlic for a couple of minutes along with the basil and oregano. Add mushrooms and cook until they are softened. Add beef back to pan. Add diced tomatoes and the plain tomato sauce. I generally just use two cans. Cook down until it is the consistency you prefer. Salt and pepper to taste and add tsp sugar. (Don't know if its true or works but I always have heard that a tiny bit of sugar helps to cut the acidity of the tomatoes. Prob. not true but its one of those kitchen myths I follow.)
