Introduction

Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

    Water, tap, 2 cup (8 fl oz)
    Granulated Sugar, 1.25 cup
    Cinnamon, ground, 1 tsp
    Butter, whipped, .25 cup
    *Flour, white, 2 cup
    Salt, .5 tsp
    *Shortening, Crisco, 16 tbsp
    Milk, 2%, .5 cup
    Pecans, .13 cup, chopped
    Honey, 1 tbsp
    Granulated Sugar, 6 tsp
    Apples, fresh, 6 medium (2-3/4" dia) (approx 3 per
    *Margarine-like spread, Country Crock, regular, 6 tbsp

Directions

1. for sauce, in a med. saucepan combined the water,the 1.5 cups of sugar, and .5 cinn. bring to a boil: reduce heat .Simmer, uncovered for 5 min. Add 1/4 cup butter. set aside
2. for pastry, in a med. bowl combined the flour and salt. using pastry blender, cut in shortening until pieces are pea-size. sprinkle 1 tablespoon of the milk over part of the mixture; gently toss with a fork. push moistened dough to the side of the bowl. repeat, using 1 tablespoon of milk until all of the dough is moistened. form dough into a ball. on a lightly floured surface,roll dough into an 18/12inch rectangle.* using a pastry wheel or sharp knife, cut into six 6-inch squares.
3. in a small bowl combine the nuts and honey. in another small bowl stir together the remaining .5 teaspoon cinn. and the 2 tablespoons sugar. set aside
4. peel and core the apples. place an apple on each pastry square. fill centers of apples with nut mixture , sprinkle with suger-cinn. mixture; dot with 1 tablespoon of butter. moisten edges of each pastry square with water; fold corners to center over apples. pinch to seal seams. reheat sauce to boiling and pour over dumpling. bake, uncovered, in a 350 oven about 1 hour or until apples and tender and pastry is golden. to serve,spoon sauce over dumpling.
