Karen's Steel Cut Oats

Introduction

Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

    1 cup steel cut oats
    1 cup 1% milk
    3 cups water
    1 dash of salt
    2 small bananas, mashed
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    2 tsp. vanilla

Tips

Additions to the oatmeal such as nuts and berries are not calculated in the nutritional and caloric values.
You may need to add a little water or milk to the oatmeal when reheating to bring it to the desired consistency.


Directions

Bring water and milk to a boil. Stir in oats and pinch of salt and reduce heat to low. Add mashed bananas. Simmer uncovered for 15 minutes and then cover and simmer for another 5-10 minutes. Serve 1/2 cup of cooked oats with fresh or frozen, thawed berries, walnuts, almonds, flax seeds, etc.
