Vegan Pizza

Introduction

This is the vegan whole wheat version of a pizza I have made for years. This is the vegan whole wheat version of a pizza I have made for years.
Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

    Crust:
    3 cups whole wheat flour
    1cup water
    1.5 tbsp yeast
    6 oz. unsweetened apple sauce

    Sauce:
    1 can low sodium tomatoes
    1/2 small can tomato paste
    1 clove garlic
    1 tsp. brown sugar
    1 tbsp ground oregano

    Topping:
    sliced mushrooms
    green peppers
    black olives
    tomatoes
    onions
    2 tbsp Nutritional Yeast
    shredded vegan mozzarella cheese
    (Any other topping you want on your pizza)

Directions

add yeast to 1 cup warm water and mix until yeast is dissolved then add apple sauce and let it set for 5 min.
Then add 21/2 to 3 cups of flour mixing as you add it. Amount of flour depends on humidity so mix in flour to make a ball until it is not sticky then kneed on a floured board. Let it set for 20 min. Put sauce ingredients in pan and add crushed garlic, stir. Simmer sauce covered while you prepare vegetables for topping. Stir as needed. Spray non-stick pizza pan with olive oil and pat dough into place. Size of pan depends on how thick you like your crust. Put pizza crust in cold oven and set heat to 400 degrees. As the oven heats, it will help the crust rise and begin baking it. Only keep it in for 5 min. Remove crust and cover with sauce and toppings then return to oven and bake for 15-20 min. Check bottom of crust after 15 min. to see if it is done.
