Introduction

This is a pure white frosting, ideal for wedding cakes. You can double the recipe if you have a sturdy mixer. Best for piping, if you are using it as a frosting base thin it out with milk. Number of Servings: 3

Ingredients

    1 cup shortening
    4 cups powdered sugar
    3-4 tablespoons milk
    1 teaspoon almond extract
    ½ teaspoon clear vanilla extract

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl.
Beat on low speed of electric mixer until well blended and very smooth.
Store in refrigerator if not using immediately.

  • This is the recipe my Mom used, and I've always used (minus the almond extract), for icing (and Mom decorated cakes professionally!). Don't pour the milk in all at once; add it a tablespoon at a time, and mix in thoroughly in between, to find your preferred consistency. - 10/24/10
