Cathy's American Chop Suey

Ingredients

    1 1/2 lbs 85% lean hamburg
    1c white onion, chopped
    1c bell pepper, chopped
    1 1/2 small boxes macaroni (6 cups)
    2 tsp minced garlic
    3 15 oz cans tomato sauce
    1 15 oz can tomato paste
    1 tbsp oregano
    2 tbsp basil
    4 tsp sugar

Tips

You don't need to add sugar to this recipe. I add it because I have GERD and it cuts down on the acidity of the dish for me. You don't taste it in the food at all. Try topping this with a few oz of shredded cheese on top!


Directions

Saute onions, bell pepper and garlic in fry pan until cooked through, about 10 minutes. Add hamburg and cook thoroughly. Meanwhiled, heat water in a large pot and add macaroni when boiling. In another pot, take the hamburg, onion, pepper and garlic mixture. Add 3 cans of tomato sauce and 1 can tomato paste. Add the spices and sugar and simmer until ready to use. Once the macaroni is done cooking drain the water and return the cooked pasta to that pan. Add the pot filled with the sauce and enjoy.
