Bread Machine Hot Cross Buns with Icing

Introduction

Traditional Easter Favourite with a lot less work!

Number of Servings: 12

Ingredients

    1 1/2 tsp.yeast
    2 cups flour
    1/3 tsp. Salt
    2 3/4 Tbsp. Sugar
    1/3 tsp. cloves
    1/6 tsp. Allspice
    3/4 tsp. Cinnamon
    1/3 tsp. Ginger
    1/3 tsp. Nutmeg
    3/4 egg, beaten
    1 1/2 Tbsp. Margarine
    1/3 cup milk, scalded
    3/4 tsp. Sugar
    1/3 cup lukewarm water
    1 tbsp. Melted margarine to brush on top

    For icing,
    1 cup icing sugar
    1 Tbsp. Margarine
    1 tsp. Vanilla
    Water to get to thick icing consistency (approx. 1 - 2 tsp.)

Directions

Add dry ingredients in order listed into bread machine.
Beat egg and add o bread machine. Add 1 1/2 Tbsp. margarine. Put milk and 3/4 tsp. Sugar in small saucepan. Heat to almost boiling to scald milk. Add to bread machine. Add 1/3 cup lukewarm water. Start bread machine on dough cycle.
After the cycle is complete allow dough to rise on more time.
Pound down dough and remove from machine.
Divide into 12 pieces the size of an egg.
Shape into smooth balls.
Place close together in lightly greased round baking tins.
Brush tops with melted butter.
Cover well and place in a warm location
Let rise until 2 1/2 times original size.
Bake 5 minutes at 375F. Reduce heat to 350F. Bake an additional 15 minutes.
Let cool.

Prepare icing. Pipe a cross onto the top of each bun.

Serving Size: 12 large buns with icing
