Sparkling Limeade

Introduction

This refreshing and not-too-sweet beverage is almost too pretty to drink. Almost!
This refreshing and not-too-sweet beverage is almost too pretty to drink. Almost!

Number of Servings: 5

Ingredients

    1 cup strawberries, quartered*
    1/2 cup raspberries*
4 limes, juiced (about 1/2 cup)
    1 tablespoon agave nectar**
2 1/2 cups seltzer water or club soda

*Using frozen fruit? No need to thaw or drain it.
** Agave nectar can be found in the health-food aisle at most supermarkets. You can substitute your favorite sweetener or omit it.

Tips

Cherries are equally delightful in this recipe when they're in season.

Directions

Pure the fruit, lime juice, and agave nectar in a blender or food processor until smooth. Pour 1/2 cup into a glass filled with ice and top with 1/2 cup seltzer. Repeat with the other glasses.

You can refrigerate the fruit juice mixture for up to a week, but add the seltzer just before drinking.

Serving Size: Makes 5 eight-ounce servings.

I didn't feel like going to the store to get strawberries, but I had some frozen unsweetened cherries. I threw them in the bender frozen :) and used splenda instead of agave! - 7/5/12

I liked it but I had to drink it at room temperature, I cannot tolerate cold in my mouth. I liked it a lot but the lime was the KEY. - 6/3/12

I made this on our 100 degree day today. Really hit the spot! Slightly more tart than I like, next time I think I'll make it with just strawberries, but all in all, a really good summer drink! - 8/16/12

For the commenter that said 8 oz is a pretty small size for a drink: if you read "serving size" on ... really, any drink I've ever seen: 8 oz is the serving size. Just FYI. And that includes water, since the recommendations are always broke down to number of 8-oz glasses. - 7/6/12

As I am allergic to Aguave I tried w/o rather than an alternative to Aguave nectar or nothing-which as I found out is good enough. - 6/11/12

Thank you for this. Too many time people make their limeaids with 7up or sprite. I worked in an Ice Cream parlor when I was younger, this is how we made them. - 6/3/12

  • this is a great recipe. I live in Florida, so fruit is plentiful and inexpensive. I have added raspberries, strawberries, cherries, blueberries and blackberries and even a little lemon/juice. Thank you for the recipe - 7/23/12

  • I had to use frozen raspberries as I could not find fresh ones at the store. It only made 1.5 cups of fruit syrup so I used 1/3 cup for the drink. I had to add splenda to add some sweetness. If I make it again I would not use as much lime juice. - 5/28/12

  • We loved it! My husband wanted his a little sweeter, so we added half of a packet Stevia to a glass. I didn't have raspberries, so I used a total of 1 1/2 cups of strawberries. Nice and refreshing! - 5/27/12

  • This recipe only made 2 cups of fruit syrup, not five and it was way too tart for both me and my husband. We tried adding a little bit more agave to each drink, but it wasn't enough to overcome all that lime juice. - 5/27/12
