Gluten Free Cream Soup Base

Introduction

This is the perfect substitute for gravy, for a can of cream soup in any recipe, for a white sauce, etc... This is the perfect substitute for gravy, for a can of cream soup in any recipe, for a white sauce, etc...

Ingredients

    1 Tbsp Smart Balance Light Butter
    1 Tbsp GF Cornstarch
    1 Cup Lactaid Fat Free Milk
    1/8 Tsp Lite Salt
    1/8 Tsp Black Pepper

Tips

All you have to do is add different seasonings to customize the flavors to fit your taste and what you need it for!
OPTIONS For Cream Soup Base:
Cream of Mushroom Soup
-add 1/2 cup of mushrooms
Cream of Chicken Soup
-add 1 tbsp GF chicken broth and some chopped leftover chicken or canned chicken if you want.
Cream of Celery Soup
-add 1/2 cup sauteed celery
Alfredo Sauce-add 1 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese. Add 1/2 tsp nutmeg to the sauce when hot.
Cheese Sauce-add 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese to the hot sauce for yummy mac and cheese or as a topping on vegetables.
Simply use 1 cup of homemade cream soup in replacement of 1 can of store bought cream soup called for in a recipe.
Make the BEST base for a cheese sauce for macaroni and cheese. Simply make the cheese sauce as directed above. Take the hot cheese sauce and pour over cooked pasta and toss to coat. Or make a baked macaroni and cheese by beating two eggs and mixing with the cheese sauce. Pour over pasta and mix. Pour coated pasta into a greased casserole dish, sprinkle GF bread crumbs or additional cheese on top and bake at 350 for 30 minutes until hot and bubbly.


Directions

Melt the butter. Whisk the cornstarch and milk together. Add milk mixture to melted butter and stir over medium high heat for 3-5 minutes until it's thick and creamy.
