2 Sq unsweetened chocolate (2 oz)
1/6 cup shortening (butter in the calculations)
1/6 cup applesauce
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
Nuts if desired (not in the calculations)
You can add 1/2 cup broken nuts to the batter or place pecan halves directly on top before baking.
Beat sugar, eggs, and applesauce together.
Add melted chocolate and butter.
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt and beat in.
Pour into greased 8x 8 pan.
Bake 30-35 minutes till done. Less time makes chewier brownies.
Serving Size: 8 x 8 pan makes 16 brownies
