Tom's Chili
Submitted by: JENNIAUNIntroduction
My husband's yummy chilli, great for cold days or just a tasty dinner. This is great on rice or a baked potato, or just by itself. My husband's yummy chilli, great for cold days or just a tasty dinner. This is great on rice or a baked potato, or just by itself.Ingredients
-
2 pounds of lean ground meat. (lean sirloin is what we used)
1 onion
1-2 bell peppers
1/2 jar of roasted red peppers or jalapeños
2 cans of chopped tomatoes
2 cans of red kidney beans
garlic (5-8 cloves as desired)
chili powder (1-3 Tbsp as desired)
dried chili flakes (1-2 Tbsp as desired)
olive oil
Tips
This recipe could also be done in a slow cooker. I would brown meat first before adding to the pot.
This can be done with any type of meat or even vegetarian. Just substitute the meat with soy crumbles or something else, another bean. We tend to like our food spicy, so we add a lot of peppers and seasonings. Feel free to play around with the seasonings.
I am hoping I didn't forget any ingredient :)
Directions
2. Add the beans and chopped tomatoes. Stir together with meat and peppers. Add in the jar peppers. With a garlic press, add the garlic cloves. Add in the dried chilli or pepper flakes.
3. Let simmer for at least an hour to get the flavours well situated. Enjoy!
