I also never soak the beans just put in a crock pot on low all day, or overnight. I use ham hocks most of the time. If I don't have them just broth. You can use what ever spices you like and it is delicious on anything. Tortillas, plain, rice, eggs.
This reminds me of the way my mother always made them. My mouth waters at the thought. I'm going to fix mine tomorrow in the crockpot, though, and I never soak my beans and they come out just fine (mom soaked them but I don't.. I'm a rebel ~ lol)
