You may add some vinegar if you prefer a slightly sour taste. You may also add some fried sausage if you are not up for a vegetarian meal.
Heat the oil and add the carrots and garlic. Stir for 4-5 minutes. Add the lentils and 4 cups of water and boil until lentils are cooked. Add the tomatoes, paprika, savory and salt and let heat for another 5 minutes.
