Cornmeal Biscuits

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup whole grain flour
1/2 cup stone-ground cornmeal
2 T brown sugar
2 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1/4 baking baking soda
1/8 t ground chili powder or ground chipotle
3 T cold unsalted butter, cut into small bits
1 large egg
1 cup milk (or buttermilk)

Directions
In a bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, baking soda, and chili powder.
Cut the butter into the dry ingredients.
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Pour the liquid into the dry ingredients and stir.
Drop the batter by heaping tablespoons, about 1 inch apart, onto greased baking sheet.
Bake in preheated 400 degree oven for 10-12 minutes, until bottoms are golden and tops spring back to a gentle touch.
