Orecchiette with Broccoli, Tomatoes and Sausage



Introduction

Ingredients

    Sauce:
    1 tbs olive oil
    2 tsp minced garlic
    3 links, johnsonville chicken & pork mild italian sausage
    (casings removed and broken up)
    1 15 oz can diced tomatoes (no salt added)
    3 tbs fresh basil
    3 tbs fresh oregano
    3 tbs fresh parsley
    1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

    8 oz orecchiette or small pasta shells
    6 cups broccoli florets
    2 oz grated asiago

Tips

It is definitely worth the extra time to grate your own asiago. It only takes a few minutes and adds so much more flavor.


Directions

1. Warm olive oil in large skillet. Saute garlic until fragrant, then immediate add sausage. Brown while breaking up with a wooden spoon.
2. When sausage is fully browned, add diced tomatoes and herbs/spices. Simmer at medium low until thickened.
3. While sauce simmers, bring salted water to boil and stir in pasta. Boil for 8 minutes, add broccoli to pot and boil for additional 3 minutes. Drain.
4. Return pasta and broccoli to pot; toss with sauce and asiago cheese.
