Broccoli-Onion Casserole

Ingredients

1 lb broccoli or 2 10-ounce pkgs frozen cut broccoli
2 cups frozen small whole onions or 3 medium onions quartered
1/4 cut butter or margarine
2 tbs all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup milk
1 3-oz package cream cheese
1/2 cup shredded sharp American cheese (2-oz)
1 cup soft bread crumbs
Tips
Directions
Cut up fresh broccoli and steam until crisp tender (or cook frozen broccoli as directed); drain. Cook frozen or fresh onion in boiling salted water till tender; Drain. In saucepan melt half of the butter or margarine. Blend in flour, salt, and dash peper. Add milk, cook trirring constantly till thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat and blend in cream cheese till smooth.
Place vegetables in a 1/2 quart casserole. Pour sauce mixture and and mix lightly. Top with American or shredded chedder cheese; toss with bread crumbs. Sprinkle atop casserole. Bake at 350 dagrees till heated through.
