Hamburger Helper Rice

Introduction

This is a very quick and healthy meal that can be ready in as little as 20 minutes. You can make it vegan by leaving out the hamburger. This is a very quick and healthy meal that can be ready in as little as 20 minutes. You can make it vegan by leaving out the hamburger.
Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

    Textured Vegetable Protein- 1 cup dehydrated
    Extra Lean Ground Beef- .25 lbs
    1 medium to large onion diced
    3 cloves garlic- minced
    1 can stewed tomatoes
    1 can Hunts rich and thick spagetti sauce
    1 cup uncooked basmati rice
    salt and pepper to taste

Tips

If I leave out the hamburger, I usually add some beef bovril for the beef flavour.


Directions

I cup TVP add 1 cup boiling water and let stand for 5-10 minutes
In a large frying pan, cook together ground beef, onion and garlic until cooked through. Drain and add stewed tomatoes and spagetti sauce.
In a microwave safe casserole put 1 cup of basmati rice with two cups water, a pinch of salt, and 1 tsp butter or margarine. Cook in microwave on level 7 for 12 minutes. Add to fry pan. Mix well and let simmer for flavours to blend.

Serving Size: makes approximately 6 1cup servings
