Oatmeal Bread

Submitted by: ALISWOFFORD

Introduction

This makes a wonderful brown, crusty bread that's soft and delicious on the inside. It's also very filling and satisfying. The prep time includes the times you let the dough rise. It varies depending on the temperature in your house, yeast, etc. This makes a wonderful brown, crusty bread that's soft and delicious on the inside. It's also very filling and satisfying. Ingredients

    2 C water
    1 C oatmeal
    1/2 C brown sugar
    1 packet rapid rise yeast
    1/2 C warm water
    2 tsp salt
    2 T oil
    5 C flour

Tips

This can be divided into 3 loaves, and baked for 30 minutes. I have always gotten better baking and better results putting it into 2 loaves.

Directions

Boil 2 C water, add oatmeal and a little bit of the brown sugar. Let sit until luke warm. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Let rise, then punch down and divide dough into 2 loaf pans. Let it rise again, then bake at 350 for 40 minutes. You can rub a little butter on top when it comes out of the oven, it's optional.

Serving Size: Makes 2 loaves, about 12 slices in each.
