Chia Flour Crackers

Chia Flour Crackers

Introduction

I wanted to use chia seed powder for health, energy and weight loss, but I can't stand the gooey texture in shakes. I figured that making crackers and using them to dip in hummus would be a great idea. They're so yummy that I end up eating them plain! Ingredients

    1 cup of chia seed powder/flour *
    1/4 cup water
1 Tbsp roasted salted sunflower seeds
    1 Tbsp fresh rosemary chopped
    2-3 garlic cloves minced
    1/2 tsp olive oil
    1/2 tsp sea salt
    1/8 tsp baking soda
    1/8 tsp ground turmeric
    1/8 tsp paprika

Tips

* I bought chia seed powder, but I've read that you can make your own by taking the chia seeds and pulsing them in a spice grinder.

Directions

Mix all dry ingredients well, omitting sunflower seeds. Add garlic and olive oil and mix to ensure full distribution. Add water and keep mixing. Dough will start to ball up. Continue mixing until a soft ball is formed. Press down onto parchment or tin foil covered baking sheet starting in the center and working outward. Try to press the dough as thin as you can get it without it falling apart. I used a small hand roller to smooth the top, but lumps just add texture and aren't bad. The dough around the edges might be a little crumbly. Just press it back together with the rest of the dough. Score with butter knife into six even pieces. You can score those six pieces into smaller chunks or you can break them by hand once baked. Sprinkle sunflower seeds and lightly press them into the crackers. Bake for 21 minutes. Remove foil or parchment from baking sheet and move to cooling rack for 10 minutes. Break apart pieces and enjoy!
