Introduction

My Grandma's spice cookies / makes 5 dozen My Grandma's spice cookies / makes 5 dozen
Number of Servings: 60

Ingredients

    Flour, white, 2.5 cup
    Baking Soda, 2 tsp
    Cloves, ground, .5 tbsp
    Allspice, .5 tbsp
    Cinnamon, ground, .5 tbsp
    Ginger, ground, .25 tbsp
    Butter, salted, .75 cup
    Granulated Sugar, .75 cup
    Egg, fresh, 1 large
    Light Molassess (or Dark Corn Syrup), .25 cup
    confections sugar

Directions

1. Sift flour, baking soda and spices onto a sheet of wax paper
2. In medium bowl beat egg, sugar and butter until light and fluffy
3. with wooden spoon beat in flor mixture and molasses alternating and beating well after each addition, then cover and refridgerate the dough for 1 hour
4.Preheat oven and lightly grease cookie sheets
5. Roll dough into 1/2 balls and roll in confectioners sugar. Place on cookie sheets 1 inch apart
6. Bake 8-10 minutes. remove to rack and sprinkle with confectioners sugar
Allow cookie to cool before eatting.

  • I substitute whole wheat flour & also Becel Margaring & they are just as good. Leave out the confectioners sugar & flatten balls with a fork like peanut butter cookies - 3/23/08
