I made a few minor subs: unsalted butter for margarine, 2 egg whites for one of the eggs, added 2 c chocolate chips instead of 1, and made about 5-dozen medium-small cookies, making the calorie count about the same. Excellent, and hubby (who hates health food) wouldn't keep his paws off!
I loooooooooooooooooooooove these. Love them. So so so good. I flattened them down first, cooked them a little longer, and flipped them over halfway through - made for a less cake-y more cookie-ish cookie. So good!
Yum! I give them 4.5 stars, my husb.says 3.5 because they "taste healthy" - which is why I give them 4.5! I used old fashioned oats which I'm sure contributes to that. Otherwise followed the recipe exactly, but did bake for 15 instead of 12. I enjoy the hearty flavor and it's a filling cookie.
i use egg beaters, and use 100% splenda, and add 1.5 tsp cinnamon. i also grind the oats in the food processor before adding which makes it a smoother texture, which my husband prefers. and i bake at 375 for 14 min. then place on papertowels to cool which absorbs some grease.
These were easy to make with my kids. They taste really good!!!! My only negative the 85 calories per cookie.. the cookies are REALLY small. Like a whole dollar.. I can use the calories somewhere eles. =[
I made these this morning. The first bite I thought, "Wow I can taste the whole wheat flour". Then by the second bite I thought "Hey, these are great". The only thing I did different was I didn't add the nuts and added 1/2 cup more of chocolate chips. And I made mine a bit smaller and baked 15 mins.
Yummy yummy! These went from having a noticeable whole-wheat flavor when warm (good or bad depends on your preference, but I knew hubby wouldn't stand for it!) to perfect sweetness when cooled. So stop being so greedy and wait for them to cool off before you stuff them in your mouth.
Mmmm smells so good in my house right now! These turned out pretty good. A chewy cookie. I used baking stones, and these needed to be in the oven for about 16 minutes. We'll see what the boyfriend thinks of them tomorrow!
I was looking for a healthier chocolate chip cookie and this one seems to fit the bill. I used 2 1/2 cups of chocolate chips for hubby and the girls because they love their chocolate. I kept everything else the same. I agree with prior comment to flatten the cookies for a cookie shape. Delicious!
Great recipe! This was the first time I've baked in literally years. I wanted to make something for a social gathering and was really nervous. These ended up being fantastic and everyone loved them - I got so many compliments!
I loved these cookies. I didn't add any chocolate chips and I used generic Splenda instead of white sugar, and I used the Brown Splenda as well. (Cut the calories just a bit) But they turned out great! I would definitely make them again!!!!
I made these with my sister, they were soo good! I ommited the butter completely and just used another 1/2 cup of applesauce and used 4 egg whites instead. I also used splenda and twin brown sugar subtitute for the sugars. They were so chewy and yummy :D Thank you
I followed the recipe except I used dark brown sugar as that's what I had, omitted the 1/3 white sugar and used dark chocolate chunks. Delicious and the kids loved it! I only made about 45 cookies though, so they were about 97 cals each.
Wow... I can't believe how good these turned out! I made them for a PTA Harvest Fest for children and they were the first ones off the tray! I subbed 1/2 cup Egg beaters for the 2 eggs and I also added 1 tsp of cinnamon to kill the wheat flour taste. I flattened the cookie and baked for 15 min.
Minor subs- unsalted butter, halved the amount of sugar and used Truvia, but did double the choc chips to 2 c. I also ground up two of the cups of the oats. Brought over to neighborhood happy hour, and the entire batch was gobbled up, with several requests for the recipe!
Yum to the Tum....my kid was eating the batter and she swears to hate oatmeal...had to cook about 7 min. longer to get that nice brown look and I too, flipped them after the first 12-14 min. Should have grinded the oats. I blended all the dry ingredients together and added to the wet-still worked.
Yum! I am baking these as I type! Very good! Definitely need to flatten before baking. I used 3/4 C brown sugar, 3/4 C splenda, butter instead of margarine and put in 1 tsp of cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg.
Those cookies are really good. I used butter though cause I absolutely can't stand margarine. Also I just the Splenda Brown Sugar instead of regular one, added two egg whites instead of the eggs, and some cinnamon (could have used a little more).
I live at 8500 feet, so in order for my cookies to bake properly, I upped the whole wheat flour to 2 cups. I also added some raisins, and yummers! They were very sweet, so next time I may cut back on the sugar a bit, too.
Really Good. Used BUTTER to avoid transfats and brown sugar to avoid artificial sweeteners!! Instead of one cup of choco chips, I used both the chips and some organic trail mix!! Cookies are fairly healthy. Hubby and kids LOVE them, what more can a mom ask for?
