Hearty Rye Soup Bread (adapted from Allrecipes Steak and Ale Bread)

Submitted by: JJEANOT

Introduction

I was looking for a healthy, but dense soup bread for my fall light dinners. It didn't rise as much as I like however it is dense without being dry and slices thin while still able to hold lots of sandwich ingredients without breakage, not to mention dunking in stews and soups, just what I was looking for. Ingredients

Water, tap, 1.33 cup (8 fl oz)
*Dark Brown Sugar - 1/4 cup
    Butter, salted, 1 tbsp
    *Flour, white, 2 cup
*Rye flour, light, 1 1/4 cup
Cocoa, dry powder, unsweetened, 2 tbsp
    Salt, 2 tsp
    *Active Dry Yeast, 3 tsp
*Caraway Seed, 2 tsp (optional inc. in calorie count)

Tips

I used the wheat setting that bakes for 3 hours and 30 minutes on my machine but the original instructions weren't clear

Directions

Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select cycle; press Start.

Serving Size: 14 to 16 sandwich sliced pieces (this bread slices thin so could have more or less depending on thickness)

Number of Servings: 16
