IntroductionA versitile scone recipe A versitile scone recipe
3 1/2 c flour (I use "wholewheat and bran")
1/2 cup sugar (I use splenda)
2 tsp Baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c shortening ( I use canola oil)
2 eggs and enough buttermilk to make 1 3/4 cups (I use regular 1% milk and add a little lemon juice to sour milk)
Bake at 375 degrees for 16 minutes (I actually prefer to bake at 350 degrees for about the same time).
They will be a golden brown when ready (not dark)
Note - really nice with dried cranberries and/or raisins
Or - add some diced ham and a little shredded cheddar (omit the sugar if you do this).
The recipe nutritional count includes Craisins so you will need to adjust for ham and cheese scones.
