Robin's Read Beans

Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

    1 lb. red beans
    water
    lg. red onion
    4 cloves garlic
    Mrs. Dash Table or Original, 2 tsp.
    4 whole cloves
    2 bay leaves
    1 Tsp salt
    13 oz. Hillshire Farms smoked turkey sausage
    3 Tspn salted butter

Tips

Serve over white or brown rice.


Directions

Sort beans to pick out bad ones. Rinse beans. Put in 6 qt. pot with water about 2 inches above beans. Chop onion and garlic in food processor until very fine. Add to beans. Add all seasonings. Cut sausage into rounds, half rounds or quarter rounds (personal preference). Add to beans.

Start cooking on high. When beans start to boil, lower fire to a slow boil. Stir frequently to prevent sticking. Add additional water as needed. Cook for approx 3 hrs or until beans are tender.

When beans are tender, add butter. Stir to incorporate, this will help the beans to be creamier. The overall thickness should be the consistency of a cream gravy.
