The original recipe calls for 1 can of black beans however, to reduce sodium I substituted 8 oz dried beans to yield 3 cups, the equivalent of 1 can.The sodium content if using canned beans is more than 290 mg per serving. Ingredients

    1 cup brown rice
    1 medium onion, chopped
    Chili powder, to taste
    Bay Leaf, to taste
    Garlic powder, to taste
    8 oz dried black beans, cooked according to directions and drained.

Directions

1. Cook rice according to directions on package.

2. In a separate saucepan, combine black beans, onion, spices, and a little water. Simmer 20 minutes.

3. Combine all ingredients into one saucepan, stir, and let it sit for 5-10 more
minutes. Stir once more before serving.
