Carmelized tofu with brussel sprouts

Carmelized tofu with brussel sprouts

Introduction

Soooo good and QUICK!!! My non vegetarian husband asked me for SECONDS!!! Soooo good and QUICK!!! My non vegetarian husband asked me for SECONDS!!!
Number of Servings: 1

Ingredients

    1 block of extra firm tofu
    3 TBSP brown sugar
    TBSP olive oil
    Dash Salt
    1/3 cup pecans
    2 cups (about 10 large) raw brussel sprouts- sliced
    1/3 cup Raw Cilantro
    3 cloves garlic (or more if you like it)

Directions

1. Slice tofu longways in 1/4 inch slices- then half so that they are skinny pieces
2. Heat oil and dash of salt in frying pan
3. Lightly brown tofu (about 5-6 minutes)
4. Add Pecans and Garlic (cook 3 more minutes)
5. Add Brown sugar (cook 2 more minutes)
6. Put tofu mixture aside in bowl and add cilantro- mix
7. In same used pan cook sliced brussel sprouts until slightly softened on med/high heat- approx 5 minutes
8. Put brussel sprouts on plate and add tofu mixture to top.
Makes 2-4 servings.... Soooooo Good!!!

    I am having a hard time believing someone would even consider trying this with over 1000 calories and 70g of fat!!!

    Oh my goodness, was this good!!! I plated it into 3 servings, which are pretty small but it comes out to about 359 per serving that way, and had it last night for dinner, and am looking forward to having it for lunch today and tom. I highly recomend this recipe!!!! - 4/1/09

  • This was very good. The sweetness of the tofu mixture paired with the brussel sprouts and cilantro made a great combination. This was my first time making something with brusel sprouts and Im glad I chose this dish. Sometimes tofu can feel kind of "meh" but we actively went back for seconds here. - 2/18/14

  • We really liked the tofu prepared this way. I ended up cooking mine a bit longer. I also added some cayenne- perfect mix od spicy and sweet. We'll definitely be making this again. - 12/6/12

  • So the nutritional amounts appear to be for the entire recipe which serves 2 to 4. Fats include MUFAS. These are some of my favourite ingredients so I'll try it and report back! - 10/21/12

  • I couldn't afford any pecans that I was able to find, so I left them out. I also left out cilantro. I added black pepper. I love the garlicy-sweetness of this dish! I have an insane love of brussels sprouts and tofu, so hard to go wrong :-) - 9/20/12

    Because I want my family to eat tofu and because this prepares so quickly, I would have rated it at 3. However, my daughter refused to eat any of it and my husband gave it a 1. He would not be more specific as to why other than the overall flavor. We're not vegetarians which explains this critique - 1/27/12

  • I would suggest either adding the garlic at the beginning with the oil and then adding the tofu to reduce the "spice" of the raw garlic and to add extra flavor to the tofu. Or, if you had extra time, roast the garlic, then add when the recipe tells you to. - 7/9/11

  • This recipe was delicious. I didn't have any pecans, so I substituted pine nuts. I adapted the amounts to make just one serving, but the idea was still the same and it made a great vegetarian lunch! Thanks for posting. - 1/21/11

  • This was just great. I liked it from the first bite and it just kept getting better. I didn't have the brussel sprouts on hand so I used snap peas instead and served over brown rice (which let me spread if over 5 servings and still be very filling). Even my 8 year old son asked for seconds. - 2/11/09

  • This was pretty good - I especially liked the caramelized tofu. Normally, I brown tofu and just throw on some bottled sauces but this was a much fresher and tastier way of going about flavoring the tofu. I will try it next time with different greens but this is a great way to eat brussel sprouts. - 9/16/08

  • I didn't have brussel sprouts. So I made a huge salad, put the cilantro in it & topped with the camelized tofu. Then added balsamic/vinaigrette dressing which offset the sweetness wonderfully. - 5/8/08
