Grilled Cheese Pizza Sandwich

Introduction

This tastes just like cheese pizza! Pair this with a salad and you have a great pizzeria style lunch without the calories attached--or the bill. This tastes just like cheese pizza! Pair this with a salad and you have a great pizzeria style lunch without the calories attached--or the bill.
Number of Servings: 1

Ingredients

2 slices mixed grain bread (I like Orowheat)
    2 tablespoons marinara sauce
1/4 cup mozzarella cheese (low moisture, part skim)
    1 teaspoon shredded Parmesan
    Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Spread 1 tablespoon of marinara sauce on each piece of bread. Spread mozzarella cheese evenly, on side with sauce, on first piece of bread. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over mozzarella. Top with second piece of bread, sauce side down. Place in heated pan and cook until cheese inside is melted and outside is golden brown...or darker if you like. Plate up and enjoy! Makes one (1) serving.

Great pizza substitute when I am craving sauce and cheese. I used my George Foreman grill and sprayed the bread slices with olive oil spray before grilling. Added a sprinkle of italian seansoning to the cheese before sandwiching together. Yum :) - 1/29/09

I used to make this for my teenage son, he was trying to lose weight, but I would use half of a whole wheat pita, stuff it with part skim shredded mozzarella, turkey pepperoni and the lowest cal pizza sauce that I could find. Then I would melt it under the broiler til the cheese melted. - 6/26/09

Good idea! Thanks for sharing. I have actually done this in the past..suggest to use sliced rather than shredded cheese (less messy!), and sandwich pepperoni is good. Also, pan-frying onions for min or 2 removes some of the excess water. Seems real kid-friendly too..my niece will enjoy this! :) - 1/19/10

This was great! I did throw on some pepperoni. I ran out of bellpepper which is what I wanted to put on it! The owner of my company said it smelled great and now had to take his brother to lunch because they were hungry! - 7/2/10

We always did this with English muffins when our kids were small. I use the Arnold thins. They do conatain SUCRALOSE but they are so perfect for this recipe. - 2/27/10
