Not sure why people are complaining about 315 calories being a lot - I think that's great for a meal! You could eat four meals a day at 315 calories and be at only 1260 which would be low-range for almost everyone!

Great recipe, I'll be trying it soon. - 5/7/09

Ground turkey would lower the fat and calorie count on this dish. - 2/8/09

Very filling, but I could make a better tasting taco salad off the top of my head, for fewer calories. But still good. I don't really like the spice combo of fresh garlic and onion powder, and would suggest substituting taco seasoning. - 8/14/07

The recipe says one serving. The nutritional info calculated only accounts for 2 ounces of beef, not the whole 4 ounces (which is a 1/4 pound). The recipe as written above is actually 400 calories if you use the whole 1/4 pound of lean beef. - 9/22/13

  • good recipe but the calorie count listed is only for 2oz of beef instead of 4oz.
The true calorie count would be 400.4
    I will make it again. - 3/30/14

  • I like it spicier so I seasoned the meat with chili powder and a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes instead of the garlic and onion powder. Doesn't have the sodium of taco seasoning but more of a taco flavor. - 2/10/14

We made this with ground turkey because it's what I had thawed out. Maybe that's why I thought the flavor was a little dull. I think next time I'll either spicing it up with more spices or using the ground beef. - 9/22/12

  • you may want to check the calorie count for this. i checked using the recipe calculator on this site and just the bean and meat mix comes out to 378 cal thats more than what the entire recipe is supposed to be. just wanted everyone to know. its still good i would just half the meat mix. - 3/22/12

  • Good basic recipe--Thanks for posting. I'm using it in my meal (and grocery shopping) plan for today. I will probably use a fresh onion and chili type seasonings and use less cheese and add some avocado if I can find a good one, so my ending nutritional numbers may vary a little. - 5/11/11

  • I did it exactly the way the recipe is listed and it turned out good. Substituted taco shells for my daughter while I had a bed of spring lettuce. Next time will try taco seasoning for a bit more taco tasting meat. - 2/21/10
