Slow Cooker Baked Beans

Introduction

Good for cookouts and barbecues. Relax or concetrate on other activities while this cooks. Be sure to rinse and drain the pinto beans several times to reduce the sodium content before adding to the pot. Good for cookouts and barbecues. Ingredients

    3 15oz cans pinto beans, drained and rinsed
    1 cup barbecue sauce
    1 small onion, chopped
    ¼ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
    2 slices turkey bacon, chopped

Directions

Place all ingredients in *slow cooker; mix well cover with lid.
Cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 3 hours

Makes 10 ½-cup servings

*Lightly spray slow cooker with cooking oil spray for an easier clean up.

  • I made this recipe without the bacon...and it was pretty good. I like knowing that it's lower in sodium and fat because I see what goes into the slow cooker instead of just opening a can. I think next time I will use the bacon...it needed that little bit of extra flavor to put it over the top. - 6/16/08
