Introduction

My dad makes this every time I go home to visit, and I finally asked him for the recipe. I substituted ground turkey for the ground beef he uses and it's just as good. Yummy! Ingredients

    2 lb. 97% lean ground turkey
    1 large onion
    1 large green bell pepper
    3 - 15 oz cans Italian flavored stewed (or diced) tomatoes
    1 - 16 oz can tomato sauce
    2 - 15 oz cans dark red kidney beans
    2 to 4 tsp chili powder (to taste - I use 2)
    1.5 Tbsp brown sugar
    2 tsp each (or to taste) ----
    minced garlic
    oregano
    parsley flakes
    Italian seasoning
    Lawry's Seasoning Salt
    1/4 tsp cumin
    1 tsp cayenne pepper

Directions

Brown ground turkey with onion and green pepper. When fully cooked, put in large stewpot. Add the rest of the ingredients, rinsing out the cans with water and adding that water to your pot. (should be about 1 cup) Bring to a boil, then simmer covered all day (about 5 hours) on lowest heat - stirring often.
Makes 16 1-cup servings.

My family makes elbow macaroni and adds it in when ready to serve this dish. The kids seem to love the addition of the macaroni!
