Creme Brulee French Toast

Submitted by: JDLANDER

Introduction

Make this the night before! It also has to set out before baking for 40 min.

This should be in the dessert section. Another one of Jacob's favorites. Decadent and not a healthy choice, but you have to live a little every once in a while, right?

Ingredients

    1 stick (1/2 c.) butter
    1 c. packed brown sugar
    2 Tbsp. corn syrup
an 8 to 9 in round loaf country-style bread
    5 large eggs
    1 1/2 c. half and half
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 tsp. salt

Directions

In a small heavy saucepan melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup over moderate heat, stirring until smooth and pour into a 13x9x2 in. baking dish. Cut 6 1-in. slices from center portion of bread, reserving ends for another use (which is never told in this recipe), and trim crusts. Arrange bread slices in one layer in baking dish, squeezing them slightly to fit.

In a bowl whisk together eggs, half and half, vanilla and salt until combined well and pour evenly over bread. Chill bread mixture, covered, at least 8 hours and up to 1 day.

Preheat oven to 350 and bring bread to room temp. Bake bread mixture, uncovered, in middle of oven until puffed and edges are pale golden, 35-40 min.

Serve hot French toast immediately.
