Beer Can Chicken

Introduction

This is the best way to grill a chicken! The meat is sooo tender and moist with no added fat! And it's EASY! This is the best way to grill a chicken! The meat is sooo tender and moist with no added fat! And it's EASY!
Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

    1 whole chicken
Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb Seasoning
1 can light beer (can also use root beer or lemon-lime soda, but beer tastes best!)
    Non-stick cooking spray

Directions

Rinse the chicken, removing all kidneys, heart, etc. Leave the skin on, as this will keep the chicken moist during cooking. Pat dry with a paper towel inside and out. Open the beer and pour half of it out. Sprinkle Mrs. Dash on your hand and rub inside the cavity of the chicken. Rub seasoning all over the outside as well. Take the beer can and set it on a cookie sheet lined with foil and sprayed with non-stick spray. Place the chicken over the beer can so it is standing up. Grill on the BBQ over lowest heat for 2-3 hours, depending on the size of the bird. Rotate halfway through cooking. You can also cook this in your oven at 300 degrees for 2-3 hours. Chicken is done when skin is nice and crispy, use a meat thermometer to be sure. Let chicken stand for 10 minutes, then carve the wings, legs and breasts off the can. It should be very easy, it should almost fall off the bone. Peel the skin off and enjoy! This is the most tender, flavorful chicken you will ever eat! The beer keeps the moisture in the meat, and the alcohol cooks right out.

We used a southwest blend seasoning and put some chopped onion and garlic in the beer can. YUM!!!!!!!!!!! The chicken fell off the bone and was so moist. It's just as easy to do 2 chickens vs 1 and then there are leftovers to freeze for future meals. - 7/6/09

This is so delicious!!! The chicken is so succulent. Annettemom has included a great picture!!! I found a shiny steel beer can holder at Walmart that helps to keep the chicken in an upright position. We did it on the grill but I'd like to try it in the oven, too!!!! - 5/25/09
