Sloppy Toms

Submitted by: SQUISHEDFAIRY

Introduction

I got this out of a kids cookbook that I've used since Elementary school. I just changed from using ground beef to using ground turkey. I also just use a regular jar of sauce, but if you can use a "diet" one this will change the nutritional info. Hope you enjoy like my family does. Great to have your kids help make. Ingredients

    1 celery stalk
    1 pound ground turkey
    3 tablespoons instant minced onion
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 jar (about 16 ounces) spaghetti sauce
    6 to 8 hamburger buns

Directions

1. Wash celery stalk and pinch off leaves. Chop the celery into 1/2-inch pieces on cutting board.

2. Crumble the ground turkey into skillet. Cook and stir over medium-high heat until cooked through. Drain and return to pan.

3. Stir the celery, 3 tablespoons minced onion, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon pepper, and the spaghetti sauce in to the turkey. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Reduce heat. Simmer uncovered over low heat 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Place 6 to 8 hamburger buns (cut side up) on ungreased cookie sheet. Adjust broiler rack so the tops of the buns will be 4 to 5 inches from heat. Broil or toast at 550 degrees.

5. Toast the buns until light brown. Watch carefully- it will take just 1 or 2 minutes. Spoon turkey mixture onto bottom half of each bun and cover with top half.

Makes 6-8 sandwiches.

****Toasting buns optional****
