Old Fashioned Apple Pie

Submitted by: JENNIFER994

Introduction

Just like my grandma used to make, but lightened up by partially substituting Splenda for sugar, and topping it with streusel instead of crust. Just like my grandma used to make, but lightened up by partially substituting Splenda for sugar, and topping it with streusel instead of crust.

Ingredients

12 cups cored, peeled, sliced apples
(Granny Smith or Jonathan are best)
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup Splenda
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, heaping
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, heaping
    2-3 tablespoons cornstarch
    2 piecrusts, I use Pillsbury

    for streusel topping:
    4 tablespoons flour
    4 tablespoons butter
    10 tablespoons sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 450 F. Mix together in large bowl the apples, sugar, splenda, spices, and cornstarch. Line 2 glass pie plates with the pie crusts. Mix the streusel, preferably with a handheld pastry blender, or with a fork. Pour the apples into the 2 piecrusts, then crumble the streusel on top.

Bake the pies at 450 F for 10 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 350 F, and bake for another 45 minutes to an hour.
