QCSAHP - Hearty Beef Stew

Introduction

Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    1 lb Lean Stew Meat, cut into bite size pieces
    1/4 cup Flour
    1/2 teaspoon Salt, Seasoned
    1/3 cup Oil, Cooking
    1 each Onion, chopped
    1 cubes Bouillon, beef
    8 oz Tomato Sauce
    3 each Potatoes, peeled and cubed
    3 stalks celery, cut into 1-inch pieces
    1 1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning
    1/2 teaspoon Pepper
    1 tablespoon Cornstarch

Directions

To Prepare for Group:
1. In a bag, toss beef with flour and seasoned salt until well coated.
2. Heat cooking oil, brown beef with onions until tender.
3. Dissolve beef bouillon in 1 cup of hot water.
4. Add remaining ingredients except cornstarch.
5. Stir until well blended.
6. Place cornstarch in sandwich bag.
7. Place stew in gallon bag.
8. Combine bags and freeze flat.


Cooking Day:
1. Bring stew to a boil.
2. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 1 hour 15 minutes or until beef is tender.
3. Stir cornstarch with 1 T of water.
4. Whisk cornstarch mixture into stew.
5. Continue to cook an additonal 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
6. Alternative cooking option: Place stew in crockpot and cook 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high.
7. If stew needs to be thickened after using crockpot, follow above cornstarch instructions.
