Soda Bread ~ Suzy's




Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

    * 2-cups of flour, sifted
    * 1-1/2 tsp baking soda
    * 1-tsp salt
    * 1-cup buttermilk

Directions

PRE-HEAT OVEN TO 425-DEGREES

(1) Heat a 9 inch iron skillet that has been sprayed in the oven.
(2) Sift together the flour, soda and salt.
(3) Make a well in the above and add the buttermilk.
(4) Thoroughly mix until dough leaves side of bowl.
(5) Flour a bread board - put dough on board (sprinkle with a little extra flour - and gently knead 3 or 4 times.
(6) Pat dough into a circle the size of the skillet.
(7) Cut an X in the top and bake for about 25-mins or until nice and brown.
(7) Wrap bread in a tea towel when it is done. This absorbs the baking soda taste and keeps the bread fresh.


NOTE: You can also use 1/2 white and 1/2 wheat flour ;)

  • sounds like it would be good and go nicely with a fall/winter stew or chili, gonna have to try it. Been trying to find a good rustic bread for that purpose. thanks - 10/5/08
