Introduction

Number of Servings: 15

Ingredients

    3 c. whole wheat flour
    1/4 c. 1% milk
    1/4 c. water
    1/4 c. salted butter
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. anise seed
    2 tsp. orange zest
    1/4 c. sugar
    2 1/4 tsp. yeast

    1/4 c. sugar
    1/4 c. orange juice

    2 Tbsp. sugar

Directions

Heat water & butter together until butter melts. Add milk. Mixture should be about 110F.

Place milk mixture in bowl of bread machine. Add other dough ingredients. Set machine for "dough".

Remove dough from machine. Knead and shape into circular loaf, reserving a small amount for decoration. Place on Pam-sprayed sheet. Form reserved dough into 2 rolls. Brush one side lightly with water, and cross them on top of loaf. Let rise about 1 hour, until double in size.

Bake in preheated 350 F oven for 35 - 45 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool slightly while preparing glaze.

Glaze

In a small saucepan, combine 1/4 c. sugar and orange juice. Bring to a boil over medium heat, and boil 2 minutes. Brush over top of warm loaf of bread. Sprinkle with sugar.
