My Baked Teriyaki Tempeh &Tofu
Submitted by: YOGATICHANumber of Servings: 18
Ingredients

2 Blocks Extra Firm Tofu
one pkg of Tempeh 226 grams
1/2 cup Teriyaki Sauce (I like Soy Vay Veri Veri Teriyaki Sauce from Trader Joe's, but any will do.)
Directions
Makes 18 3" pieces
Slice tofu and tempeh into pieces (about 6 to each block of tofu) Place in zip lock bags. Add Teriyaki sauce. Allow to marinate for about 2-4 hours.
Place slices into baking dish and pour marinade over slices. Cover with Foil. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. After the 30 mins, remove foil and bake for another 30 minutes or until marinade has dried.
Serve warm over brown rice, couscous or whole wheat pasta.
Or...serve cold over salad.
You can substitue any marinade you want.. BBQ sauce; or Jamaican Jerk marinade. The texture and flavor is so much better than the store bought flavor infused tofus.

I used Trader Joe's Island Teriyaki. It was good, I just don't understand why I need to bake it for an hour. - 5/12/08

Sorry. i just now noticed this comment. Baking for an hour at the low temp causes the tofu to accept all the marinade and it makes it nice and chewy. But, if you prefer not to bake it as long, that is entirely up to you. I'm just happy you tried it. :)
