I don't like it when people rate a recipe before they make it:(
Made these just now, as directed, with fresh cocoa powder and they are tasteless. They also are more like a cake brownie so if you like chocolate and gooey, don't make these. Guess, I will need to frost them..... - 10/31/12

Excellent. A heavier, dense consistency, which I like a lot. Can't even taste the zucchini, says my non-zucchini eater. I used 1 cup flour/1 cup whole wheat flour. Loved it. - 8/6/12

I liked these but only used half a cup of sugar and we liked them a lot. We used to do Zuccini Chocolate cake but these are easier keepers. Taste good frozen - 7/30/12

These are much more like a cake than a brownie - if you saw the brownie photo on Pintrest, do not be fooled. They are not fudgey, but they are pretty tasty for a low-fat recipe. I added some instant espresso to boost the chocolate flavor. I love that they're vegan too :) - 9/3/12

I seen here that some people find it to cakey. I use 3 baby zucchini and 1 and 1/2 cups flour instead and it turned out fudge like a brownie. - 12/7/13

So, i tried this recipe and followed it exact, with one exception - I added a little bit of canola oil (Maybe 1/4 a cup) because I was afraid they would be really dry. For a 120 calorie, 2 grams of fat brownie, this was really good. It tasted more like chocolate banana bread, but overall GOOD! - 1/21/13

This was very good! I often play around with recipes to make them as healthy as possible, but this was already pretty good. Unsweetened applesauce, 1/2 the sugar (rapadura), dk cocoa, 1/2 zucchini & 1/2 yellow squash (I used squash I had frozen but drained excess liquid), some dk choc chips. Yummy! - 8/28/12

The first time I made these, I used zucchini that I had frozen from last year-lesson learned! Must use FRESH zucchini! This recipe was delicious once I got it right! The 'boys' and my daughter LOVED it! - 7/31/09

Very yummy! I shredded the zucchini in my food processor, which only has one setting. I thought it wouldn't be fine enough to mix smoothly, but it did. You cannot see or taste the zucchini. I think the taste would depend on the ripeness of the banana. Mine were very ripe, so sweet. Will make again! - 4/2/14

They were not very good. Followed the recipe to a T and they would not be a substitute for anything chocolate. They taste more like a sour cream torte type thing... Not a winner IMHO - 10/7/12

I think these brownies are delicious. I am a chocolate lover and these are great when I get hit with a craving. I used a little less sugar and a little more applesauce and they turned out great. My family loves them as much as I do so I will definitely be making them again. - 2/5/14

Good but not great. I used 1c whole wheat flour in place of one of the cups of white flour. I also reduced sugar to 3/4 c and added 18 pkts Splenda. Would try adding 24 pkts next time. 2 ww pts with adjustments. Can sprinkle on 6 T mini choc chips for an additional 1 pt per serving. - 11/18/12

This is delicious. I used almond flour instead of normal flour and it turned out more of a pudding than a brownie, still tasted good but. Next time I'm going to add an egg instead of the apple sauce to make it less running and more solid - 7/22/13

Modified the recipe substituting Splenda for sugar and used unsweetened applesauce - came out pretty good, the consistency was not like "normal" brownies, it was more like dense cake or bread. It felt like something was missing, though... might try adding a handful of choc chips next time! - 8/4/09

  • for fudgy effect replace banana and apple sauce with 100% pureed pumpkin and it makes if fudgy. Pumpkin 8-10 oz is what I use with boxed devil's food cake to get fudgy brownie bits
I think it would work here too. - 10/10/14

  • I followed recipe exactly - and they were just not good. However, my 9 year old and her friends think they're awesome and said "they taste just like normal brownies". I disagree wholeheartedly - but hey if they kids will eat them I guess that is worth at least 2 stars. Final - I won't make again. - 10/7/14

  • This was a fantastic recipe! Very moist and decadent! This obviously isn't going to taste like a classic fudgy brownie. What do you expect with bananas/applesauce vs. eggs/butter? I used dark cocoa powder, added chocolate chips and a splash of Meyers dark rum. I can't stop eating it! - 8/26/14

  • I think I cheaped out on the sugar, only used less than half a cup of truvia. Needed more. also think it needs either more applesauce or less flour. Perhaps 1 1/2 cup flour. Also, they taste a lot better the first day so next time I'll make a smaller batch, more sugar, less flour. - 8/24/14

  • These are pretty good. I used less sugar and 1 cup regular flour + 1 cup whole wheat flour. I sprinkled confectioners sugar on top. There is a distinct banana flavor to them. I think I'd like them better without that. Still very good, though. - 7/29/14

  • I used 1/2 cup canned pumpkin in place of banana, unsweetened applesauce,1/4 cup very fine walnuts and baked 20 min. I used zucchini that I had frozen, just let it thaw and drained the water off. They are very spongy and moist. Flavor is pretty good, I would make again. Hubby will be the real test! - 6/30/14

  • Used Splenda, 1 c whole wheat flour and added 1/2 c. mini chips. Because I had a little extra, I added 2 more Tbls of applesauce. The brownies came out nice and moist. Need to shred zucchini a little more as it chewed like there were raisins in the brownies. Really good w/ice cream on top. - 6/29/14

  • Made these today. My girls and I think they are just yummy. I didn't have the right baking pan so I used 2 8x8 pans and made bite sized portions for just 79 calories per piece. I also omitted walnuts as my girls will not eat them in any kind of food! Oh thanks for getting veggies in their bellies :) - 6/28/14

  • Used 1 cup sugar, 1 3/4cup whole wheat flour, and added 1tsp espresso powder. Texture was a bit odd, flavor was a bit bland (needs more chocolate flavor). I was surprised that there were no eggs or oil/butter in the recipe, and thought the brownies would come out rubbery. They were moist! Making this for a crowd tomorrow. I would call it a bread though. - 9/20/13

  • For a bit of chocolate in a controlled portion, these were not bad. I used Hershey's Special Dark Cocoa Powder for a stronger flavor, 1/2 the sugar and 1/2 granulated Splenda, and no nuts. I divided the batter into 48 mini-muffins. A lot of work, though. - 7/7/13
