Fried Green Beans

Submitted by: BAREFOOT-LISA

Introduction

Very good as a "guilty" food to accompany a lighter fare choice, like tilapia and brown rice! Very good as a "guilty" food to accompany a lighter fare choice, like tilapia and brown rice!
Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    1 egg white
    1/2 cup 1% milk
6 to 8 ounces fresh green beans
1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs or seasoned dry bread crumbs
    1/4 teaspoon onion powder
    1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
    salt & pepper to taste
Olive oil or vegetable oil for frying

Directions

Place beans in a large pan of water. (can use brother for more flavor, but more calories and sodium) Bring to a boil and cook 15 minutes, then drain and place in cold water to stop cooking process.

Mix beaten egg with milk in a shallow bowl. Combine bread crumbs, salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder into a third bowl. (or can use seasoned crumbs alone or with dry ranch)

Take a handful of beans out of the cold water and shake off excess liquid. Dip the beans, one at a time, into egg/milk mixture, then dip in bread crumb mixture. Place the beans on a plate until all are coated.

Heat the shortening or oil to 350 degrees F in a heavy skillet (or use deep fryer). Use just enough to cover the beans. Fry until golden brown, about 1 1/2 minutes. Drain well on paper towels. Careful when patting to not crush the batter.
