Chip Beef gravy

Submitted by: VARINIA

Introduction

This has always been a favorite of mine. It can be eaten for breakfast lunch or dinner. I use it on toast but I have also used it over mashed potatoes. This has always been a favorite of mine. Directions

Place margarine in a large skillet on med heat. Let margarine melt, add about 3 tbsp flour to make a rue. Let cook for a 1 or so stir constantly. Then whisk in half the milk so it gets completely incorporated with the flour mixture. Cut up the dried beef so it is in 1/2" squares, then add to the mixture while it is coming up to a boil. It will thicken quickly. When it starts getting very thick start adding the rest of the milk. Whisk it while it is heat up again. When it reaches the your desired thickness it is done. If it is too thick, thin it more with a little water but not too much.
Serving size is about 1/4 cup.

I love this served on toast or mashed potatoes.

  • I think the whole wheat flour was a bit much for me- the next time I make it I will do half and half of white flour and whole wheat, I used the reduced sodium chipped beef and didn't add any more salt- way enough for me, and I used non fat milk and only 1 T of land of lakes whipped light butter... - 1/11/10
