Introduction

This filling chicken and cheesy gravy dish is so simple to make, with only five ingredients. Serve with a green salad on the side. This filling chicken and cheesy gravy dish is so simple to make, with only five ingredients. Serve with a green salad on the side.

Ingredients

    4 chicken boneless, skinless chicken breasts
    1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
    1 can cream of mushroom soup
    1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
    1/2 packet Good Seasonings Italian dressing mix

Tips

Serve over mashed potatoes.


Directions

Place the chicken in a glass baking dish.
Mix together the remaining ingredients and pour over chicken. Cover and bake at 350 for one hour, or until the chicken is fully cooked.

Makes 8 servings. Each serving is 1/2 chicken breast and 1/8 of the gravy.

    I brown the chicken a little bit first and use brown or basmati rice in place of the potatoes. For the veg, I serve broccoli and/or cauliflower - the sauce is great on them as well. My family luvs this meal each and every time - a real favourite!!! - 2/22/09

    You could probably use any brand of Italian dressing mix that you find in your area, I just use good seasonings because it's what grandma always used for this recipie. If you need to know how much to use of the brand you choose- the good seasonings packet is 19g and I use half, so 9.5g of seasoning.

    Well I made it tonight. It is amazing how something so simple can taste so good! Thanks for sharing. It had the right flavour and the chicken melted in our mouths. Adding the mashed potatoes, just topped it off wouldn't be the same with rice. We loved it. Thanks - 2/13/09

    OMG...so delicious!! My kids always give me a hard time because I cook chicken so often....they loved it!! My 10 year old son had seconds!! I couldn't find the Good Seasonings Italian mix so I substituted Clubhouse Italiano seasoning. The hardest part was trying not to go for seconds! - 3/4/09

    This was delicious. Even my boyfriend and grandmother (neither of which like mushrooms all that much) loved this! The sauce was so delicious that my boyfriend said he wouldn't mind it being served as a dip if it were a little thicker. I used reduced fat soup & reduced fat cheese, very very yummy! - 3/24/09

    I made this last night and it was simple to make and tasted great. The mushroom gravy that it made was awesome - I served it over mashed potatoes, but would be awesome over brown rice too. The only variation I did to the recipe was add 2 cups of mushrooms instead of one. - 3/6/09

    It wasn't bad, but it lacked taste. I think the next time I'll add garlic or something to give it more of a taste. I added potatoes to the dish and they came out great but the chicken (althought soft) left me wanting more. - 3/2/09

    You could also try using the whole packet of italian mix instead of half, I have a friend who makes it that way for more kick, but I find it's too much for my taste. Hope that helps :)

    This was delicious! I've had others similar to it before, but I really like the Italian dressing mix...gave it a little bit different taste. Hubby and I couldn't stop picking the leftoverf mushrooms out of the remaining gravy, either! Definitely going to make this one again! - 4/8/09

    This was WONDERFUL! I used mushroom soup with roasted garlic and 2 percent shredded mild cheddar and served it with fresh mashed potatoes and a salad. It was super easy to make. This will definitely be a regular dinner at my house! - 3/11/09

    This was OK for my family. It was super quick to put together which is a bonus, but the flavor was just average. The "gravy" turned out really thin and just didn't have a whole lot of flavor except salt. I might try adding onions and garlic if I make it again. - 3/9/09

    I was skeptical when I saw the recipe but when I saw all the reviews I had to try it! It was wonderful! I used 98% fat free soup and omitted the fresh mushrooms (only because I didn't have them). It had a wonderful flavor and the chicken was very tender. Will definitely make again! - 4/20/09

    The flavor was very good on this, I did use the 2% cheddar and 98% FF soup. I also added 1 cup FF Plain Yogurt to the mix. However the overall dish was way to salty for me, so I think I will try and cut the seaoning back or something next time. Definately a keeper recipe! Thanks for sharing! - 4/10/09

    This was extremely good and super easy to make. We did end up swapping out .3oz of italian seasonings for the dressing mix and used canned mushrooms instead of fresh (we were just using what we had on hand) and it came out fine. - 3/31/09

    Frankly, I was surprised how good this was! The combination of ingredients didn't sound so great, but the reviews and ease of cooking made me try it.     Make sure you only use half of the seasoning packet, You want to use just enough for flavor, but too much and it will taste salty.

    This was very good, but I used Golden Mushroom Soup instead of Cream of Mushroom...I did this because I thought the Golden would make a better "gravy"...will follow the directions next time so I can compare. But VERY easy!! - 3/21/09

    This was good, but I changed it A LOT. My household has a vegan 2 vegetarians and 2 meat eaters, so I made a vegan version using Morning Star sausage crumbles and homemade vegan cream of mushroom soup, and a vegetarian version just adding shredded cheddar cheese. Everyone loved it! - 3/19/09
