Bacon & Sauerkraut

Submitted by: JANEDOE12345

Introduction

Lots of sauerkraut recipes call for sausage but I like bacon, and I like simple recipes. This is a great guy recipe, as it is easy, fast and tastes like ball game food. Ingredients

    * 1/4 pound raw bacon
    * 1 can sauerkraut, about 2 cups
    * 1 cup chopped raw onion
    * 2 tsp Splenda Brown Sugar Blend

Directions

Cut 1/4 pound of bacon into small pieces, easier if it is very cold. Fry till almost done, drain fat. Add chopped onion. Cover and saute until soft. Add one can rinsed and drained sauerkraut. Stir in the Splenda, as much as you prefer. Use fresh ground pepper on top. Cover and cook for a few minutes to heat the sauerkraut through. Add some mustard when you serve it and it's like Saturday at Little League..

  • This was great! I was looking for a sauerkraut side (instead of the usual Beer Kraut) to have with some Chicken Brats that I found at Whole Foods and this was perfect! I rounded out the meal with a rye bread loaf from the deli. I will definitely make this again! - 1/27/13
