Sesame Tofu (or Chicken)

Ingredients

    2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    2 tablespoons cornstarch
    1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    1/4 teaspoon baking powder
    2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
    3 tablespoons water
    1 teaspoon olive oil
    1 teaspoon sesame oil
    1 brick of tofu (can substitute chicken)



    1 cup beef broth
    .2 cup white sugar
    .1 cup brown sugar
    2 tablespoons rice vinegar
    2 tablespoons soy sauce
    2 tablespoons sesame oil
    1 chile
    2 clove garlic, minced
    1/4 cup cornstarch
    1/2 cup water

Directions

Mix together the first part of the ingredients and add tofu. Make sure everything is well dredged. Cover and let marinate for about half an hour

Add the rest of the ingredients to a sauce pan. DO NOT ADD WATER AND CORNSTARCH YET. Keep heat at medium high until mixture is boiling. Mix together the cornstarch and water and slowly add to the mixture, whisking lots. Keep heat on low until you are happy with the consistency.

I usually precook my tofu and add it to the sauce and let it simmer for a few more minutes.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve over rice.
