Submitted by: FDOODLES

Introduction

Great basic recipe, I like to add onion & garlic powder to mine before adding the water. Great basic recipe, I like to add onion & garlic powder to mine before adding the water.

Ingredients

    Brown Rice, dry, 1.5 cups
    Water, tap, 2.5 cups

    Butter, salted, 1 tbsp

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Bring water and butter to a boil. Combine rice and seasonings you prefer in a casserole dish. Pour boiling water over rice, cover with a double layer of foil (I like to line the dish with foil also, for easier cleanup). Bake for 60 minutes. This is exactly how I've been making brown rice for the past year or so and it comes out perfect every time. I generally double the recipe (so I can use a large covered casserole), and boil the water in a kettle. I generally freeze it in family-sized servings. - 4/17/11

I make this as a base for all rice dishes. For mexican, I brown the rice, onion and garlic in 1 TBSP olive oil before adding into baking dish. I leave out the butter (Because I added EVOO)add chicken flavoring, 1TBSP tomato sauce chili power cumin and cilantro and bake as directed. - 9/10/10
