Oatmeal Cookies

Introduction

These are a cake type cookie my Mom used to make often. In later years, she added chocolate chips, I personally think that ruins them. You can also add or substitute raisins. Number of Servings: 44

Ingredients

    1 Cup shortening
    2 cups brown sugar
    3 eggs
    2 cups quick cooking oatmeal
    1 tsp ground cloves
    1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
    2 tsps ground cinnamon
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 cup sour milk (I use 2%)
    i tsp Vanilla
    1 tsp baking soda
    3 cups flour
    1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

Mix shortening and brown sugar until creamy, add oatmeal, sour milk, & eggs, blend. Add spices, vanilla, salt & soda. Blend in flour and walnuts. I usually let the batter sit for about 15 minutes before putting on cookie sheet. I use a 2 oz scoop. Place on cookie sheet about 2 " apart and bake about 10 minutes. Bake at 350. This recipe makes about 3 dozen.
