3 - 3.5 cups white flour 2 cups whole wheat flour 1/3 cup shortening 3 tsp. baking powder dash of salt 1.5 - 2 cups water
Mix thoroughly all ingredients except water. Slowly add water kneading the dough. Dough should be firm and pliable (similar to a standard bread dough) Dough should not be sticky. You can always add a little more flour if the dough sticks. Make dough off into 15 small balls and let sit for at least 15 minutes. Preheat comal - flatten each ball of dough into a circle. Please on heated comal and allow the tortilla to brown - flip .ver and brown on second side.
These are best served hot. Makes 15 6-inch tortillas
