Yum!! These are great- I recommend covering the bottom of the pan with wax paper, as they come out soft and sticky. I love how versatile the recipe is- you can substitute whatever you have on hand for the sunflower seeds, etc. I added walnuts, dried cherries and a few mini chocolate chips. - 8/20/09

I doubled the recipe and added some ground flax, bee pollen & almonds and did not have any dried fruit to put in.
they are not hard yet but I"m eating it anyways.

I was thinking of buying some protein powder. Now I have a reason.
The article on flax said not to cook it. - 9/28/10

looks like just what I was looking for to avoid the high cost of protein bars in the store, can adjust by adding fruit to keep it different - 9/28/10

Sounds good, but, for me - high calories and high fat. I really try to watch this in everything I eat. That's about half a meal for me. No thanks. The only thing I might use this for is to take as a snack on a long motorcycle ride. - 9/28/10

It could be that there is more protein powder in my scoops than in the original poster's... but my batch turned out very dry and very protein powdery tasting. For the amount of calories I consumed, I want to at least 'like' it. Sorry for the bad rating, just my experience. I threw the rest away. - 9/28/10

I just can't allow myself to eat so little volumne with so many calories and fat. I need and want to eat a larger volume of food to get those kind of calories... I would go for a turkey wrap with 45 calories where I can eat several of them. - 9/29/10

I think it's an excellent protein bar. I mixed everything together in my food processor which worked well, but needed to add a little more water. They are very sticky so will try the wax paper on the bottom of the pan next time. - 9/28/10

For those looking for protein powder, the one recommended to me from several sources and what I received in today is http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/natw

  • I see some people posting about the high fat/carbohydrate content of this Protein Bar. You have to understand that there are good fats and bad fats, as well as good carbs and bad carbs. They are not all created equal. The bars will only be as good as the quality of the protein powder you buy. - 1/6/14

Not easy to take on the run as they are so sticky. Good flavor but overall, I'll probably stick w/ a different recipe that is more travel friendly. :) - 5/19/11

  • I want to try these - I love the convenience of the other store brands but I hate the soy derived proteins... this way, I can control for that - and maybe even try other healthful add-ins that my son might not notice (like flax seed??). - 10/26/10

My husband and I both love this! I used hemp protein powder for more fiber and then added cocoa powder for the chocolate. You will need to add some agave syrup or honey to make it sweet enough(because of the cocoa powder) Adding lots of dried fruit helps too...I used chopped dates, dried blueberries - 9/28/10

This sounds very interesting. And I KNOW its going to be a lot cheaper than buying the premade bars. And I can pronounce every ingredient in the list!!! LOL

When you talk about protein powder, what does that mean? the kind used by body builders? Why so little fiber? Should be a way to bulk up fiber? - 9/28/10

Yum! I haven't made them yet, but they sound delicious! I'm thinking you could make them with BSN's lean Dessert Protein Shake (can get at GNC). It only has 3.5 g of fat, 8 carbs and 21 g of protein. I have the chocolate fudge pudding one & I love it. I'll try to post again if they turn out! - 9/28/10
