Ingredients

Meat filling:
1 lb. Extra lean ground beef, lamb, or venison
2 Tbsp. water
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
(1 tsp. salt, optional)
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. oregano
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 small onion, chopped
Sauce:
1/2 C. yogurt
1 tsp. dried mint
1 tsp. sugar
1 small cucumber, chopped finely
3 pitas, cut in half (calorie count is not included in calculations)
Directions
Makes 6 servings.
Mix the ingredients for the sauce and refrigerate while meat filling is prepared.
Mix the ingredients for the meat filling. Shape into 6 thin patties. Cook over medium heat in 2 Tbsp. of oil for 10 to 12 minutes, OR cook on a George Foreman grill (which I prefer) until done.
Spoon 1 1/2 Tbsp. of sauce in a pita pocket. Place the patty in the pocket. The pocket can also be stuffed with your favorite toppings, such as chopped tomatoes, lettuce, olives, onions, etc.

I'm glad you liked it. We have been having these sandwiches a lot lately since we have fresh cucumbers and mint from the garden. I have been using ground turkey for these and lowered the calorie count even further.

I'm glad you liked it! I am going to make it this weekend and try ground turkey as the meat filling. I think, instead of patties, I will keep the meat loose and use that to pack into some pitas. We have fresh mint and cucumbers available right now.
